A Professional Learning Community (PLC) is a group of teachers working as a team to ensure the success of all their students. This is a dynamic and holistic description because success is different for all students. Success could include ensuring that gifted and talented students are identified and challenged appropriately, students with low language skills are identified, and students that seem to be struggling with their social/emotional learning are identified. By collaborating with different departments, each teacher is able to identify specific needs that other individuals might miss.
Below are the SIS PLC collaborative expectations:

As a 6th grade team, we (9 teachers) gather every two weeks to discuss the 89 6th grade students. Teachers in attendance is: the Grade Level leader, 1 Science, 2 Math, 1 ELA, 2 Humanities, Theatre, and PHE.
Strategies discussed for students who might be falling behind include:
1. positive and negative behavior notes home to parents (depending on the situation) but overall increase parental communication.
2. Practice note taking strategies
3. Practice focusing strategies
4. Use pop-it or fidget gadgets to those having trouble focusing in class
5. One-on-one meetings with students.
